THE DEN
The Den is where it starts.
In the heart of the African bush, the den is more than a shelter, it is the hub of the pack. These wines are spirited, social, and best enjoyed with good company. They are unpretentious and simply delicious, providing a soft, juicy and homely backdrop to the stories and laughs that happen when you finally retreat to your own den at the end of the day. It is the perfect place to begin if you are new to Painted Wolf Wines.
THE PACK
When pups leave the Den, they join the Pack.
Success for African Wild Dogs lies in the strength of the collective, and while the den is a place for rest, the pack is built for the pursuit.
This is where the hunt begins in earnest, hunting down the best approach for working with the grapes brought in to best capture the spirit of the vintage. Much like a pack moving across the plains with singular purpose, we bring these elements together with careful intent.
PICTUS
The African Wild dog pack is led by an alpha pair, who lead the pack with unwavering authority from guiding the playful pups in the den to coordinating the maturing pack.
The African Wild dog is defined by its rarity and its unmistakable, individual markings. No two coats are ever the same. This range is our tribute to that individuality. From Lycaon Pictus meaning Painted Wolf.
As our reserve collection, Pictus represents the most distinctive expressions of our cellar, wines that possess a character so unique they deserve to stand alone.
We set aside the most distinctive barrels of each vintage, that embody the remarkably persistent and persistently remarkable spirit of the African Wild Dog. The result is a pair of rare, blended handcrafted wines that are as singular and beautiful as the species that inspired them.
