Vineyards &
Winemaking

A pack is closely linked to its land and thrives only where the ecosystem is balanced and the environment is respected. Our winemaking philosophy follows the same law. To create wines of true character, we look beyond a single vineyard, sourcing premium grapes from some of South Africa's most prestigious terroirs.

That pursuit takes us to the rugged heart of the Swartland, the deep soils of Wellington, and the ancient riverbeds of the Breedekloof. These are our key sites, chosen with care, and they let us craft focused, site-specific wines.

We believe exceptional wine cannot be forced; it must be farmed. That's why we only work with growers who share our obsession with conservation and the environment.

Winemaker Sjaak Nelson

Great winemaking is an act of harmony, not control.

At Painted Wolf, there are no rigid recipes or blueprints. We follow the lead of the land instead, and every vineyard and every vintage offers something unique. In the cellar, our team works like a tracker, reading the subtle cues of each harvest, and working alongside the Jordan team with Winemaker Sjaak Nelson and Assistant winemaker Kimberly Wucherpfennig now gives us a level of focus and detail we've been chasing for years.

Our approach to oak is one of restraint. By respecting the raw potential of the grapes and working in sync with their natural traits, we create wines that are alive, energetic, and true to the spirit of the pack.
